Whats about the supposed rivalry between the Brits and the Aussies?

According to your flags, you people ought to be brothers or at least cousins since most Aussies came from the UK..

I would assume it's because the two countries are very close in the medal counts each olympiad, that it's a rivalry between the two to see who can outmedal the other one.   Sit down sports would be cycling, rowing, anytime you're resting your **** on something.  Stand up sports? never heard of them referred to in that nature, but obviously that would be sprinting, pole vaulting, sand volleyball, hurdles, and the such in which you're required to be on your own two feet to compete.  Basketball is another good example.

Britain won a record number of gold medals in Cycling and did very well in rowing and sailing, all "sitting down" sports !

Australia and Britain are first cousins, healthy banter between us is good for all, it acts as a spur to do better next time !

The resentment comes from the Aussies. Have a look at how Australia was founded and you'll understand why. To be fair though, we Brits are more than happy to reciprocate any hostilities. Because when all's said and done, the Aussies are just a bunch of boomerang throwing, barbeque munching, kangaroo shagging criminals.

I kinda agree with the first poster. I have observed the same thing. As to why British likes moving to Australia. Just because they don't like Australians doesn't mean they won't move there. Lots of Muslims and other nationalities hate America but they keep moving here in droves.

Many people in US have British ancestry. Many people in Australia have British ancestry. The British have a dislike for Australians and Americans, they just dislike Australians less. It's probably jealousy or resentment for leaving the Great Britain.

Australia and britain have a rivalry basically cause we play the same sports and share a common history. Our rivalry come about because of the fact we are such good friends (most of the time).

Britain got most of its medals in Rowing, Cycling and Sailing all sports which you are on a seat.

The Aussies and the Brits (mainly the English) just have a great sporting rivalry with each other ... no hate or anger. It's just friendly teasing and making fun of each other

it comes around because we play the same sports as each other at International levels and compete on a regular basis in Rugby Union, Rugby League and Cricket

And also because we are so closely realted in the fact that most Aussies are of Britsh descent, makes our rivalry more intense, just because we want to get one over on each other in sports, no one wants to lose to the other

if your not a Brit or an Aussie it's hard to understand, but there is no real animosity there for the most part, just friendly banter.

And Secret N, the Brits don't hate the Aussies or The Yanks or Kiwi's or anyone, there is no resentment or no jealousy there. We Brits just make fun of others and even ourselves a lot, which is our humour and a lot don't get that and think we are serious.
