Last poster was incorrect...  Airplane mode means all communications are disabled, including cell and text messaging.  You still have access to music, videos, etc.

The FAA requires that all phones turned on while in flight must be in airplane mode to avoid the potential for disruption of aircraft signals...

It means you cant take phone calls or send texts or anything to do with satellite reception. But you can play games, listen to music, look at photos, the works

it has no internet connection so you can go on the internet make call text messages and you can use it on airplanes so it doesnt interfere with their signals. you can still like take pictures, play games, etc.
