Many aggressive inline skaters who are seeking sponsorship use YouTube and well-designed personal bio websites to post videos and photo galleries that demonstrate their skills.  They also use the web to list their accomplishments including competition results, tours, events, exhibitions, etc., too.

Once they are online, they can seek sponsors the same way you look for a job - resumes, letters, phone calls and some companies even have sponsorship applications.
