Years ago I went to Rome on my honeymoon and stayed at The Grand - BEAUTIFUL!  But years later I started working for a hotel company and found out that they had purchased The Grand and spent millions refurbishing it and it is now The St. Regis Grand, Rome.  It is absolutely gorgeous - the rooms are huge with every amenity you can imagine, and they even have butler service, if requested (and paid for) !!!  Excellent location and the service is outstanding.

both times i visited i stayed at the franklin hotel - its within walking distance of the vatican and st peters (i walked there every day) as well as good restaurants and the metro.  it's far enough away from the city center to not be loud or crowded... but close enough to be able to get everywhere without wasting much time.

one of the best hotel in rome is the great hotel exdelsior ii via veneto the other one is the intercontinental hotel ,from there your sight is the beautiful Piazza di Spagna.however in via veneto all the hote are five stars superior.
