  1. I just got a Nikon D60 and LOVE IT!

You probably want to go with an easier camera purchase just to get started! :)

But a Nikon D40, and the Canon Rebel XTi are also great for beginners as well.

If you can afford a bit of a higher end model the new Canon Rebel XSi is also amazing!

BUT I LOVE MY D60 AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

It takes amazing photos, it comes with a great Image Stabalized Lens, and it is compact and fits the hand amazingly! It is so easy get your way around menus and stuff!

You really can't go wrong with either Nikon or Canon.

  2. If you really want to take very good pictures than get the Canon Camera. There are many different models of them so you can pick any one that you like. Please don't get the Sony camera because you will regret it. Stick to Canon. I promise you that it will take the best pictures you will want. There are some really great deals on those Canon cameras.

  3. All three shots were probably taken with some kind of SLR (35 mm or digital).  The pencil shot was taken with a macro lens, the second with some general zoom or wide angle prime lens and the third either a macro or perhaps even a long lens focused at its closest focus point.

That said, you can either spend about $200 for a good used 35 mm SLR (like a Nikon or Canon) and good general lens, or buy an entry level DSLR with lens for about $470 on Amazon.

NO P&S camera will provide you with the control you will need to produce images like those on a consistent basis by controlling the shutter speed, f/stop and choice of lens

  4. Fhotoace is absolutely right on this one. You don't get those kind of shots with just P&S cameras.

    A good camera costs money.

The best I can say is a Nikon or a Canon.

If you get a Canon, I suggest the Rebel XTi models. Those are very nice, but can run in price from $600-$1000.
