  1. It is a uterus that contracts without causing the cervix to open.

  2. It is basically having a whole lot of braxton hicks contractions. They usually aren't strong enough to cause any dilatation, just more annoying than anything. It CAN be caused by uti's or kidney stones.

  3. I was diagnosed with an irritable uterus in my first pregnancy. I had braxton hicks contractions that were painful and would not go away. I ended up on bedrest for 7 weeks to prevent changes in my cervix. They called it irritable uterus because irregular contractions were showing on the monitor at preterm.

  4. i was in the hospital a few days ago with an irritable uterus it was just that i was having a lot of contractions that where not changing my cervix at all and they hurt pretty bad like labor contractions. in my case it was caused by dehydration. I had irritable contractions for 3 days that didn't change my cervix at all and as soon i was given an IV of fluids they went away... Good Luck and make sure you drink lots of water everyday

  5. It is when your uterus is irritated easily by dehydration, even mild, a full bladder, etc. making it prone to small contractions. These contractions can be uncomfortable but they are usually not strong enough to cause the cervix to dilate or efface. I have one and am on pelvic rest. I have to make sure I drink a ton of fluids and urinate as soon as I feel the urge to go and take it easy- per my ob/gyn's instructions.
