Purchased a range that requires a 208/240 volt, 60 Hz and says it must be protected by a (30 amp) circuit breaker. the receptacle must be a NEMA 14-50R device able to accept the 4-prong plug. Approximately how much will this cost? I currently have a standard electrical outlet.

  1. $250 approx.

  2. a four prong plug indicates that it a 3 phase unit.. which you probably don't have.. and you would need your power company to run an additional line to the house. but if this is only an option and it will work on single phase 240, then the problem is easily solved.. all that is required is 2 wires that are size 10  to the outlet box and one ground.. no neutral is required.. attach both wires to a double 30amp breaker.and the other end to a receptacle that fits the end of the range.. this could cost as much as 200 dollars depending if the outlet that is there now has a conduit run all the way back to the panel. if it does then it could cost less to do the job.

  3. i would say that 250 sounds right depending on where your panel is located.  could be less iof it is in an unfinished basement near below your kitchen.

a 4 prong plug does not mean it is three phase.  the prongs are: 2 hots( for 240 volts) one neutral and one ground.  the reason for the neutral on ranges is because 99.9% have a clock and other controls that still require 120 volts so the neutral is needed for that.
