i am going to be a senior this yearand at first i really had my eyes set on stanford univeristy but thanks to my suprisingly low ACT score, i know longer think thats a possibility. i have a weighted 4.3 GPA and an unweighted 3.8. i am on NHS (nation honors society), 4 years of baseball, (2 varsity) and including 2 yr cpt of the JV team. i am a hispanic male. overall i am a great student. last year i took one AP course and this year im taking 4. ( AP biology, psychology, literature, and statistics) i am also a member of amnesty international at my school and i believe i can write some spectacular admission essays as well. the only bad thing is my ACT score. i was very upset when i got it. i got a 22. (on practice test i was scoring 28's) anyway i am going to retake it but if i retake it i wont be able to get my scores back in time for early action (applying early to colleges to higher my chances of getting accpted) anyway what do you think are my chances of getting into university of illinois....or even a long shot like stanford???

  1. both are hard universities to get into if you get your ACT up to 27 or 28 you can get in to U of I my bro got into u of i with a 27, but for engineering you need at least a 31, and the 2009 national rankings ranked u of i 35 now we are better than wisconsin and georgia tech and university of california at san diego, us news rankings suck at first they said 40 but that didnt make sence so they changed it to 34 or 35. but for stanford if you get a 30 on your ACT you can get in.

  2. hey

so i think you have a good shot depending on what program u plan on doing. If ur doing engineering then u need really high math and science scores. Take SAT 2's in those subjects because they might help. Also u are a minority and it seems pretty smart with the gpa (its out of 4 right?).

I got into illinois urbana and i had a 3.7 with over 2100 SAT scores as well as good SAT2 scores. Try to get in the high 20's for ur ACT's. 22 might be a bit low. O are u in state btw. If u are u will definitely  get in. The application also asks for extracurriculars and asks specifics like email adresses for your superiors at those extra curriculars.

As for standford, don't get ur hopes up. I know a kid who got a perfect SAT score with a high gpa, three sport captain, with leadership positions, work experience, awards, and extra curriculars. He did not get in. Maybe it was because he was form the east coast. But i still think it will be a long shot.

Stick with it man, u seem to be on the right track. Good luck with the apps, i know how tough it is.

But after u get to sit back chill and look back at all u have accomplished.

    Peace.
