  1. It depends, running is a very high impact sport and can cause damage to your joints. It depends what you're trying to achieve, walking is a good activity to just remain fit. However for weight loss or increasing cardio it doesn't get your heart rate to a high enough rate to accomplish anything. I would suggest biking. The best of all would be swimming, It uses alot of muscles you've never even felt and it's low impact.

  2. Cycling over all has less impact on the body and less stress. However swiming is the best yet it isn`t one of your options, swimming one mile is equal to running 4 miles.

  3. Running will probably work your body harder. You'll definitely be moving the whole time. On a bike you won't have to move all the time. You can pedal some, glide some, etc. So yea, I'm gonna say running.

  4. Cycling won't beat the c**p out of your legs and feet.

  5. Running is the best method which help to exhaust a person.

There is a psychological problem when people change from running to cycling.

In cycling you would recognise that you have gone a greater distance than you should have, and then stop for a break.

But by running you know your potential and you want to increase it so you would go further ahead.

    Thus increasing your potential.

  6. Seems an odd-lot of answers. None addressed you question precisely.

1st I will assume "best" means the most beneficial workout.

With that in mind, running 4 miles is a better workout then riding 4 miles. But that's not really a good comparison. When comparing aerobic exercise you compare TIME and INTENSITY not mileage etc.

Most people can go around 3 times as far on a bike than running in the same time. If you want to cycle to get the same aerobic benefits as your running, match time and intensity.

As a few others noted, cycling is far easier on your feet, ankles and knees. Running is fine as is cycling.
