Whats better? Used Trek 7.3 FX vs. Marin Fairfax Bike?

Question

I am undecieded btween buyin used '06 Trek 7.3 FX for $350 or '05 Marin Fairfax bike for $400.

I am a beginner cyclist who will use bike for leisure rides and occasional triathalons.

Does someone have any advice as too which is the better deal and better bike?

Well, as the owner of a Trek 7.3 FX, I can assure you that it is NOT the kind of bike you would ride in a triathalon; it is too heavy and not very aerodynamic.  Tri bikes are extremely light and have aero bars on them.  The 7.3 is fine for neighborhood rides, but it is no racing bike. The Marin model is not much better, but has a carbon fork which helps with bumps in the road and damping vibrations, but again, not a tri bike. You are better off with a real road bike with a lighter frame, smaller tires, and ten gears in the back instead of 8.
