  1. It all depends on where you are. Since there are no USA swimming teams within 100 miles of here, the YMCA teams are much more competitive.

The YMCA league that I am in consists of 10 teams. All but about 2 of the teams have a very large amount of swimmers with my team and one other team both having around 200 swimmers.

So it all comes down to where you live. But the real big swim league in this area is PIAA Swimming or High School Swimming. That's where it gets really competitive, especially since PIAA Swimming ranked as the 2nd best state High School system in the United States, behind only Ohio.

But on a national level, I believe that USA Swimming is a little more competitive, but I couldnt' say for sure.

  2. USA is way more competitive also they scout through USA for Compititions and even Olympics (I have a friend that qualified for the 2012 olympics). The YMCA is good for learning to swim and training durring off season, not to mention that its way cheaper. USA swiming costs $100 for a year of national registration, PLUS whatever the club costs. My club cost $250 for three months...

    its not cheap...

  3. i don't think that! in the YMCAs around my area, the YMCA is really bad, i mean they're good at training little kids to swim and giving lessons, but their swim team sucks. USA swimming is more competitive and u can look up ur times online, and they have offical meets.

The YMCA in my area sucks but that's just mine, but maybe other people's don't.

i think USA swimming is better.

  4. USA is better

  5. USA!!!!! I did y for two years and it stank. However that said....

There are some good Y programs out there and some bad USA programs but generally speaking USA is way better.

For example. You said that you went to nats. and got 5th.

Well I have a friend who got 4th at nats a few years ago but at our big USA meet she was seeded 20th in that event and it was just the local area swimmers from like 3 states. Because most people swim USA there is more comp. and generally the coaches are way better.

  6. YMCA is more like a community team. USS swimming is way more competitive. If your just a starter, try lessons in YMCA. Thats what i did. If you really like swimming and your commited to it then try to be in a USS team like me. You have to be very commited and try to make every practice to get better. Try to go to meets cause thats the whole point of USS swimming.
