The people that swear by vinyl are attracted to the "warmth" of the sound, not the quality. A vinyl record is unable to capture anywhere near the same amount of depth as an uncompressed digital recording...assuming it's properly mastered of course, which often is not the case.

So, to answer your question: they both have their place. "Better" is personal opinion.
