I have been looking online and there are so so so many different types of jackets. Are there any benefits for having one type(leather, textile, ect.) over another?

  1. Leather offers the best protection. The thicker the better. The downside is that thick leather isn't very comfy and is very hot.

I have a Joe Rocket that has leather in the shoulders, elbows, backplate, and chest area, and textile / mesh / breatheable material everywhere else. This makes for good air circulation and not so sweaty ride.

  2. Leather, it protects your skin in case of a crash.

  3. leather. it doesnt rip easily

  4. Textile bike gear is the best.

It is weather proof, breaths, is easy to wear, rip proof & puncture resistant, also very stylish.

    Leather is good protection

It does rip & puncture, is not weather proof, does not breath, and is very heavy.

I have used both and ridden for many years and moved to textiles a few years ago for the majority of riding now.

Leather's are more for show these days.

  5. I've seen a Kevlar blend that is surprisingly light weight and cool.

  6. Leather, and the thicker, the better. When it's too hot for leather (110 here today), I wear a mesh jacket with body armor in it.

  7. You want Kevlar reinforced leather. Kevlar is the material that is in bullet proof vests. Leather is amazing.

Textile and Mesh is OK, but it's going to wear. Depending on the accident (worst) it might wear down right to your skin, or (best)  it's going to have to be replaced after, beacuse it tears easily.

If you have a strong stomach visit www.ride2die.com, they have some gross pictures of people that had their textile jackets wear down to the bone!

  8. leather is the best....then textile then mesh is for summer

  9. leather offers the best protection in a slide after that the textiles with the armor built in , most leather jackets don't have a removable liner like the textile jackets do, you can find both styles with armor built in to them I prefer the textiles over the leather they tend to have better ventilation then the leather jackets for warm weather riding if its really hot out go with a mesh jacket

  10. You can find great leather jackets that are Made in the USA and  have a Lifetime Guarantee here -> http://foxcreekleather.directtrack.com/z...

  11. Leather, at least 1.4mm of it. But the best you can get is Kangaroo leather, twice as light and twice as stron as cowhide. More expensive though. Shinya Nakano (MotoGP racer) crashed doing 200 mph and not a scratch on him in his Kangaroo suit. Also the stitches just as important than the material, on most impacts the seams are what busts open before the leather does.

  12. Leather is the best it will not wear out just gets better with age. And if you tumble be assured you will have some hide left [yours] I rode for several years and did not get hurt at all wore a lot of leather though. I wore good chaps, good all leat-her boots [steel toed] also a good jacket and good leather gloves. I was covered with leather and did not regret doing it.

  14. Waxed cotton like a Belstaff Dry as a bone
