  1. i play rugby in south Africa for under 16 and it is physical but all you need is that padding cause there is a **** load of rules

  2. Isn't it obvious now, the answer is rugby.

  3. Rugby - without a doubt. It's a real man's sport whether it be rugby union or rugby league. Curling is more interesting than that American cr@p.

  4. Rugby wins just by the willpower you have to have to get up from getting laid out to go chase a ball that your backline decided to kick (which I have done way too many times).

  5. American Football: Everything else is just a recreation.

The padding? Waaaay too many people were getting killed. They didn't always wear it, you know. Actually a former President of the U.S. threatened to bane the game because of all of the deaths unless something was done, thus the current equipment. There is nothing at all in Rugby that comes even slightly close to the speed of head to head impact that you find in American football.

  6. The only reason the hits are bigger in American football is because they are wearing half a ton of armour. Their players aren't any bigger or stronger on their own.

No, I wouldn't want to take a hit by an American footballer if he was wearing kevlar body armour and I wasn't, but that is irrelevant.

In Rugby no one wears any armour at all. Even shin pads are technically illegal, and I've never, ever seen anyone wear a cup. American footballers don't go into scrums, or rucks, or mauls. They don't get raked, or punched, or kicked like we do, and we have to do it all without armour.

When we make hits it has to be done with only the force of our own bodies, and when we take hits we have nothing to protect us.

I have never come out of a rugby match without at least half a dozen bruises on my body, sometimes I have huge cuts going l the way down my legs or body, I've had black eyes and bloody noses. How often do American footballers get those injuries.

  7. If you check out american football they ram into each other with a lot more force. You see guys doing cartwheels over others etc. As its basically a kicking sport people will run to get the ball then jump up at it hence potentially hurting somone. With this constantly going on they need protection. Rubgy is my fav though - I feel there is more skill involved - how they can run with the ball dogde so many defenders and still score a try is brilliant!

  8. rugby!  padding aside, the game of rubgy is better!  there's too much standing around in football...

  9. americian football cause i'm a football player

  10. OH YEAH GIVE BLOOD PLAY RUGBY...AMERICAN PU55IES HAVE TO HAVE 2 TEAMS NOT BRIGHT ENOUGH TO ATTACK AND DEFEND

  11. If you are allowed to even tackle men without the ball and the tackles are high impact collisions, rather than flooring someone, you'd have to adapt your protection. But having played rugby I like it better. It is more elegant and has more variation in the game. Sometimes strength is needed, sometime speed. And always good teamwork and a winning mentality.

  12. I grew up with football, playing with the neighborhood kids, it was fun.  One season pf Rugby and I was hooked!

American Football takes an entire Hour to play a 15 min quarter!  Whats going on the other 45 mins??  All that down time in football just makes me lose interest.

And the touch rules, for football, you can take the easy way out by running out of bounds if you can't take the hit.  In rugby your loose the ball if you hit touch!

    Rugby all the way!!

  13. Rugby

  14. Rugby doesnt have the stop-start nature of american football, and also the players don't need to wear ridiculous sized pads because of the idiotic tackles they make.

Also the only country in the world with majorly successful american football teams is america, whilst rugby has all the British nations, Repubic of Ireland, France, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa plus many other developing countries.

So Rugby is the more successful, and you'll probably find its because it's a generally better sport.

The point made by sam21462 only highlight the idiocy of american football:

"There is nothing at all in Rugby that comes even slightly close to the speed of head to head impact that you find in American football"

Also clearly he didnt see Colin Charvis of Wales being knocked out in a tackle against New Zealand (he didnt need to be hit head to head for this"

  15. Rugby's better as they dont us any girly padding but i prefer soccer to them both.

  16. Rugby is enjoyed by many great nations. American football is enjoyed by only one. I think that answers the question!

  17. rugby anyday. american football is for the wimps but rugby is for the real players who can take abit of pain. but thats my opinion because i play rugby.

  18. The people boasting about American football have clearly not seen a rugby match.

  19. RUGBY RUGBY RUGBY RUGBY RUGBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Do you understand?

  20. Has to be Rugby League, although there is some body protection there is no armour!  League players have been known to suffer broken noses, go off and get taped up and return to the field and help their team to win (Andy Farrell you know who you are!)  There is none of this broken nail rolling around the floor in agony mallarky!

  21. Rugby League is the best in my opinion. The ball rarely goes out of play so the action is almost non-stop.

Although there are bigger hits in American football not all of their players actually get hit (the kicker, or punter). In Rugby League all 13 players and four substitutes have to be able to run fast and take a big hit and also give a big hit in a tackle often for 80 minutes.

American football is a good sport though, as is rugby union, but the best= Rugby League.

  22. rugby,rugby,rugby

  23. Rugby .....of course!!!! Much faster paced game.

  24. Rugby is by far the better of the two.  Rugby league the better of the two codes of rugby.

American footballer players wear the padding simply because they are big soft lumps of fat who cannot take a real hit off another man.   I understand its nessisery to wear some kind of padding but the amount they wear is just beyond a joke , evan the kickers and punters wear it.

And the fact that they have 3 teams in one club really rattles me off (offence, defence, and special teams)????    wtf.  Is it because there players arent intelligent enough to do all 3 or 2 at least?.   Or maybe the offence are 2 scared to defend?. who knows?

  25. easily rugby!

  26. rugby!!

  27. rugby! bcos its not american

  28. Yes, apart from the obvious answer. Consider, that after the game, no matter how many teeth lost, the game of Rugby is honourable amongst the competitor. Both sides bond by having a pint, several infact, after the game. Do they do this in the States? Although, I feel that one similarity shared between the two is they both have a good family base of supporters. Not like 'real' football GB where an increasing number of supporters are out for trouble. Yes, them septics have to trance the playgrounds in padded supports and bras, not like the real lads. Suppose the US game has good entertainment value.
