  1. Breast milk – the miracle food for your little one – contains the perfect balance of nutrients, contributes antibodies to protect your baby from disease, and continually changes to meet the nutritional needs of your growing child. But many women decide, for many reasons, to supplement breast-feeding or exclusively formula-feed from birth. Here is some information to help you decide a route that is best for you.

    Organic Formulas:

The benefits of organic baby formula are fairly straightforward. Organic baby formulas are made with certified organic ingredients and the makers must meet organic certification standards. This means that dairy based baby formula are made with milk produced by cows that have not been fed with pesticide sprayed feeds or injected with growth hormones. The major drawback of organic formula however is it can get quite expensive.

    Infant Formula:

Unlike regular cow’s milk, Infant Formulas are formulated after breast milk and contain the recommended percentages of protein, carbohydrates, fat, vitamins and minerals. In fact, health care experts recommend cow’s milk based, iron-fortified Infant Formula as the next best alternative to breast milk because it offers a complete source of nutrition for your baby during his/her first year.

If you do choose to formula-feed, hold your baby close, cherish those special feeding moments and feel secure knowing that no matter what form of feeding you choose, it will provide a nutritious choice for you and your healthy, happy baby.

  2. i prefer enfamil lipil

  3. My daughter has only ever had Nestle Good Start. Fenugreek pills and lots of water may help with your milk production. I had the same problem. My daughter wouldn't latch on either.

  4. Enfamil is the closest formula to breastmilk. My 12 month old son never had any problems with it.

  5. similac and enfimil must have different ingredients, little did i know bc enfimil gave my baby a rash around the mouth.  not sure what makes them different.  anyways you can try to pump more to increase your milk supply as you are still trying to keep up the milk and keep trying to get baby to latch on. its new to baby, they have to learn too, sometimes it just takes a lotttt of tries.  but also you can try to drink ensure nutrition drink, and you could try mothers milk tea, or fenugreek or blessed thisstle capsels sold at any nutritional store, i tried these, and at first they really help to produce milk.  good luck

  6. well, i am a new mom at the age of 25 and my newborn was just born on the 13th of august 2008. I am giving her breastmilk and formula. With the breastmilk I used a pump in the beginning because the baby was not yet latching on good enough yet. I kept pumping and kept trying to get my baby to breastfeed and so today she finally latched on the breast for about 15mins. For the first time I thought that was pretty good. She has always tried to latch on but was really getting the hang out it. She would get fussy just because she didn't do it. She is so smart to know that there is milk waiting for her, that is pretty amazing. Don't give up keep trying to get her to latch on even if you have to go to a lactation consultant or go to youtube to watch videos.

I also give my baby formula I tried to give my baby similac and enfimil when she was in the hospital and then I let her try this stuff by nestle called good start supreme. My baby loved the good start stuff she wasn't spitting up as much and good start help the immune system and helps gas. you can also try to find the website to each one of these formulas and read about it yourself .

I give my baby the good start stuff and formula.Sometimes i give her the breastmilk first and then the formula and sometime i mix them.

with Good start they have the kind that is already done to give the baby with no mixing involved, and then there is the powdered kind you have to mix with water by either boiling the water so the baby want have lead problems and then there is let the water run for 60 sec and let it be lukewarm for to mix. and then the third kind is to be mix another kind of way but you can look that up at nestlegoodstart.com

  7. Obviously breast milk is best.

Check out kellymom.com for help. Call your local LLL. Set up an appointment with an IBCLC.

  8. See if you have a branch of the La Leche League around you.  They are amazing at stuff like this!!!

  9. To increase your supply, take 7-9 capsules of Fenugreek every day and start eating oatmeal 3x a day, not the instant kind. You should see a supply boost within 48 hours.

Many moms stop breastfeeding early on because they have a lack of support (I am one of them and now I know better....too bad I do not plan on have anymore children). I find it very hard to believe that LLL did NOT want to help you as most LLL members are devout lactivists. I would strongly suggest going to a LLL meeting if, and only if, you truly want to continue breastfeeding.

That being said, if you do end up making a switch to formula, neither brand is better or worse.....it is all about what is best for your baby's tummy. Some babies tolerate Similac and not Enfamil and vice versa. I would actually recommend Enfamil because Target regularly sells their cans that have 20% more powder in them for the same price, whereas Similac is downsizing their cans but are charging the same price.

  10. Similac gives them less gas, stomache issues, and spitting up in my experience and they eat better on it.

  11. I have used both, the enfimil is a finer powder and dissolves easier but my kids preferred the similac.  I was just in the store today and saw that similac has a new version of their regular Similac Advanced out that has EarlyShield thats supposed to enhance the development of their immune system, it now says it is the closest to breast milk, but then again all brands claim they are the closest.  Nestle makes a formula called Good Start Natural Cultures it's the only formula with Bifidus BL in it which are cultures only found in breast milk. It''s supposed to be really good for baby's immune system and digestive tract too.  All milk based formulas are pretty close to being the same but it all depends on the baby. I would try both and see which one your baby prefers.  He/she might not really have a preference so in that case I would just pick the one that you think is better.

You can find info on the new EarlyShield formula here:

  12. i had my baby on similac because enfamil didn't work for my baby but its whatever your baby can handle so good luck on choosing a formula
