  1. Better for what? Camcorders? It depends what your budget is and what you plan on videoing.

At the low end, the Panasonic PV-GS320 is a pretty good camera - but it does not have a mic-in jack, so while it's 3CCD video is decent, lack of that mic in jack would push me to the Canon ZR800, 900 or 930... but they don't have manual audio control... so that pushed me to the Canon HV20, HV30, Sony HDR-HC7 or HC9.

Panasonic is embracing AVCHD which compresses too much to allow for best available video quality. MiniDV tape still retains that title (DV and HDV compress WAY less).

Video compression = discarded data = reduced video quality.

DVD based camcorders compress the most and have the WORST video quality for editing. If you are shopping for a camcorder, I STRONGLY suggest you drop DVD based camcorders from your list.

If your budget allows for more pro-based gear, the Panasonic DVX100B and HDX200 are great camcorders. The Sony HDR, FX1, FX7, HVR-V1U, Z1U and Canon XHA1 are all in the same boat (I guess the Sony VX2100, Canon GL2 and XL2 should be here too since the Panny DVX100B is listed).
