  1. We've named the months of the year, but many peoples, all over the world, named the full moons. From The Farmer's Almanac:

"Full Strawberry Moon - June The Algonquin tribes knew this Moon as a time to gather ripening strawberries. It is also known as the Rose Moon and the Hot Moon."

My favorite moon site is The Inconstant Moon.

  2. Full Strawberry Moon - June This name was universal to every Algonquin tribe. However, in Europe they called it the Rose Moon. Also because the relatively short season for harvesting strawberries comes each year during the month of June . . . so the full Moon that occurs during that month was christened for the strawberry!

  3. The first full moon in June is called the Strawberry Moon because that is about the time the first strawberries are ready to be picked.  The name comes from the Algonquin Indians, although I do not think they were the only group to refer to the moons in relationship to the growing/harvest season.
