Whats does the last name Sheets come from?

Any idea where the last name sheets comes from, i want to say its irish b/c that is what my g-pa looks like but i dont know.

  1. It really is not critical where the name comes from.  What is provable and reliable is where grandpa's actual ancestors came from, which could be anywhere.  As already mentioned.. you can use the census records from the early 1900s or late 1800s, which verify the place of birth for a person.

    Here is one guide to how research works... there are thousands of sites online for genealogy, but the most important is knowing how it works.  Once you have some idea of that.. then you branch out, since no one can say exactly which of those sites is "best" for your information. Your ancestry consists of all your ancestors, not just grandpa.

    Unless you actually find the record of grandpa's lineage..anything someone guesses is just that.. guessing. We would be happy to help you find out facts.


  2. There are a lot of Sheets in the 1880 census.  Some came from Germany, Scotland and Ireland.

    To find out where your particular Sheets came from. you will have to do the research.
