what is fengshui? good question. fengshui was devised by the chinese more than 4,000 years ago to increase crop yield. now it is adapted to increase wealth or enhance health in our everyday lives.

at the core of fengshui are the concepts (or techniques, or formulas), which can manipulate the result of your life - optimizing it. these concepts use structures within a specific environment (like the rooms as the structures in your house as the environment - not necessarily the furnitures in a room as most people think).

what makes fengshui better is that you do not need to believe it for it to happen. when a fengshui practitioner measures, analyse and applied these concepts to your house (not room), you forget about it, and go on with life. you do not become obsessed by it and live life based on fengshui.

there is a lot of secrecy surrounding fengshui. this is because most books or websites published esp those in english are not of chinese fengshui. they are the ones who tells you to either clean your clutter or put the bagua in your house and arrange your furniture accordingly. i don't think fengshui is that easy.

if you are interested in learning fengshui choose a good master, who has a long experience in the field, and someone who is not going to charge you an arm and a leg for his/ her courses.

you will know chinese fengshui, only if you know how to use the luo pan or the chinese compass, which has many circles and characters around it. each circle represents a concept - it is just a matter of interpreting the concept for you to apply it.
