  1. I am not sure what is going on in his mind, but the following is what I am guessing he is thinking.

He wants to play for a team that he feels has a very good chance at a Stanley Cup in the next 2 years.  These teams have not been as "needy" as others, and so they have offered much smaller contracts than the $10 million per year in Vancouver.

Vancouver has clouded his mind with their huge contract offer!  I mean, that had to be a startling proposition.  While Sundin was considering this, the Cup-favourite teams found other players to sign and so the Sundin offers from them have become even thinner.

So, Sundin is stuck.  He does not want to play two more non-playoff seasons with anyone as (a) he's not financially strapped as it is, and (b) he can't imagine doing all the physical training and taking the physical beating of the NHL for a non-playoff team.

Thus, he's hoping that someone does indeed come forward with $6 or $7 million to play on a strong team... unfortunately for him, I think those contracts have already been handed out.  He'll keep waiting and waiting for something that isn't going to come, and he'll play a season or so in Sweden before calling it quits.

  2. i like sundin, and i hope that he comes to the flyers

    ^^That should answer it.

  4. He doesn't really know what he wants to do yet...he doesn't know if he wants to sign with the leafs again...or go to montreal or vancouver.  I think he should go to montreal personally.  I don't really like the Canucks...so i don't want him to go there.  I guess there is a chance he could retire too.  He is probably going to take the offer that has the most money like most players do.

  5. tomjc43 you don't know what your talking about with regaurdes to Vancouver.

Sundin has a good chance of playing there.

  6. Latest Sundin news!!!!

He's on his honeymoon at the North Pole. When he comes back from this Ice Fishing trip he will announce his plans for next year. If he is going to play in the NHL it will be with either Montreal or Toronto. The Vancouver offer doesn't mean anything to Mats. The extra $3MM over the Toronto or Montreal offer isn't worth the hassle.

As much as he might enjoy playing in a US city the hassle with transferring some of his investments is too much trouble.

Cujo his old business partner is back in Toronto and his old business partner Serge Savard is in Montreal so these two might play a part.

My guess is Toronto with the announcement coming around August 1st.

  7. He hasn't made a decision yet. But the possibilities are Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, or retire. Vancouver would be the smartest because they're giving him lots of money and he'll be able to be at his home arena for the Olympics. If he wanted to win the Cup he'd go to Montreal because they have the best shot of those three teams. I've heard that he's going to make a decision by the end of July to the beginning of August.

  8. he still hasnt decided althou he was suppossed to reach a decision this weekend :(

  9. If its going on in canada then i don`t know. If he was on the new york rangers then you would know

  10. He's undecided, I guess.  I figured he was going to Montreal, but who knows now.  He may just retire.

  11. Nothing happened yet but i wish that he will sign with Toronto for at least one more year

  12. No, and he never was.  Vancouver is looking like his most likely destination IF he decides to play.  They offered him the most money and it will give him the chance to captain team Sweden in his home rink in 2010.  Sundin is no closer to making his decision then he was on July 1st so don't hold your breathe.
