my 3 yr old dog is suddenly becoming agressive torwards me. out of the blue he will start to growl at me, and get really tense like he is going to attack. this was only me at first. now he has growled at my son and our other dog. he also has shown signs at him becoming very tired after only playing for a short time. he is ONLY 3. also, within the last couple months, he has started to pee in our house. mostly downstairs but the other night he peed right infront of me on our DVR player. now, today, i noticed his pee a different color. it is a dark yellow with a tent of orange. i dont know if he is sick, and trying to tell us? i am the main care taker for our animals, so could he be growling at me telling me hes in pain? this has been going on for a few months. we are making an appointment with our vet, but until then i was hoping to get a few ideas on what could be going on with my dog, i would have made the appointment sooner, but i just put two and two together when i noticed his pee color. i didnt realize that it could be because he could be very sick, but i also could be completly wrong. please shoot out a few ideas! thanks ...

  1. could have a bladder tumour or liver disease.

showing pain through aggression may be because the dog is dominant over you i.e it thinks it is top dog (usually because of lack of disipline and inconsistent messages re appropiate behaviour)

  2. He might have a UTI , a urinary tract infection. I volunteer at a animal hospital and this isn't that uncommon. He's probably very uncomfortable and in some pain. If he's growling or whining before he has to go, i'm pretty sure that's what it is. Sometimes when dogs have UTI's they can't hold it, and it kinda leaks out with out them knowing and it can hurt alot. Please consult with your vet, and I hope everything works out ok.

  3. He is either sick or in pain.  You should make the vet appointment asap.

  4. It sounds like he is sick or in pain.   I thought that before I even read the part about his urine.    When dogs go completely out of whack and out of their normal character like this, it most always his an underlying health issue.

  5. He wants a  ***** in heat.

  6. You're dog is not sick.  Try to think of it from a dog's point of view if you can.  Dogs travel in packs, so naturally he sees you, your son and  your other dog as members of a pack.  Currently, in your dogs mind, the house that you are living in belongs to him and in order to tell you that he owns the house he pees on things, like the DVR player.  He is laying claim to YOUR belongings.

What you need is a professional dog trainer or behaviorist to help you with this problem.  The ideal situation is for you to be the pack leader and your dogs having status below you.  Right now, your dog that is growling at you considers himself in charge.

Here's what I suggest.  Make an appointment with your vet for a check up and talk to them about how your dog is behaving and whether they can recommend someone to help you with training.  Second, I would pick up the phone book and start flipping through the local training facilities in your area and contacting them for help.  Good luck and remember that dog training requires A LOT of patience and consistency.

By the way, a dog that is sick or in pain tends to be very lethargic not aggressive.
