Question:

Whats going on with my ears?

I had my ears pierced 6 weeks ago and all has been fine, until last night, I took my earrings out to clean them, my right was fine but when I took out my left I noticed there was dried blood around the butterfly, and the back of my lobe was all 'pus'y and bloody, then when I tried to put my earring back through it really really hurt and I couldn't seem to find the hole, I had to sort of push through the pain to get the earring back through. However the actual lobe doesn't hurt, and turning the earring is fine, its just a little sore when I clean it, I'm figuring because it doesn't hurt in general its not infected, but I am wondering if its starting to be. Does anyone have any idea whats wrong with it? Is it normal or does it sound like an infection could be starting?

Sorry this was so long but any help is muchly appreciated!!

  1. When I got my cartilage pierced it was fine for a while and then out of nowhere this weird puss/blood bubble formed on the back and the earring got taken out and I couldn't get it back in because the bubble blocked the hole, but then it cleared up after I left the earring out for a bit and continuously cleaned it.. so try taking the earring out until it clears up, if it's your lobes you got pierced im sure they wont close.

  2. Your ear is already infected.  Really make sure you clean it good, and if it doesn't go away in 2-3 days, you'll need to get some antibiotics.

  3. If there is pus then it is infected. You need to see a doctor and let him/he look at it.

My daughter had to remove her earrings, one day her ears were fine, the next they were infected and nasty. One of her lobs actually started to split due to the infection and how swollen it got.

  4. Actually, you could be allergic to the type of metal used in your earrings.Try usuing hypoallergenic earrings or 14 K gold earrings and see if they make a difference. And always clean your earrings with alcohol before placing them into your ear. If you keep it clean, the infection on your ear will go away, mine has swelled up and bled too and I know it hurts a lot. Just keep cleaning your ear with alcohol. It may sting at first but it will get better.
