I have had the mirena for all most a year now and I still usually get a period, even if its only on and off for a couple of days. My period is due by now and it still is not here. I am having extreme back pain though and some clotting only when I wipe. Nothing has been spotting onto a panty liner at all the whole time. I am just worried that this is not normal. I have never clotted before.

  1. i would go to your doctor just to be safe.... mirena freaks me out bc my best friend's cousin had to have surgery to get it removed so i know it does some wacky stuff... just call the doctor who prescribed it and tell them what's happening. it's probably nothing but u need a professional opinion when it comes to your body n ur health

  2. Two friends that had Mirena both got cysts from it. It says on the label that it may cause them. Go to the doctor. Hope your feeling better soon.

  3. i had my mirena put in oct. 2007.  i still am really not sure when to expect a period, or what exactly to expect when it arrives.  i know the official website says it takes 6 months to adjust and get back to regular periods, but i think it should say more like a year.  i had clotting for the first time about 2 months ago, but that was with heavy bleeding (freaked me out, too).  i really don't know... so, i'm probably not much help.  all i can say is, it's probably normal.  mirena has greatly reduced my periods, but they are still very unpredictable.  this month for example, i spotted for 1 day.  crazy.

  4. Seriously, get it taken out asap. After I had my son I had a mirena for 2 yrs, throughout that time I suffered from several ruptured ovarian cysts. Shortly after I had it removed my hubby and I started TTC. After 2 yrs of TTC I had to undergo a hysterosalpingogram where it was discovered that both of my fallopian tubes were full of adhesions and completely closed off, I had not been ovulating for an estimated 2 yrs. I had to take clomid to help me ovulate again, but luckily the third month it work and we are now expecting. Because of my experience with the mirena I will never trust or have another IUD, I'll just take the birth control and gain the weight.
