1. Chicago is all screwed up with their hiring process. I took that last exam in Nov of 2006 and I didn't get my notice to report for an interview until May of 2008. By that time I'd moved on to something else. Be ready for the long haul if Chicago is your goal.

  2. You are the wrong color. Someone with a lower score will get the job because they are a minority. Happens all the time.

  3. Chicago tends to have long hiring cycles for police and fire, generally 2+ years. They get so many applicants each cycle that they can create a huge list. JScott is right, be ready for the long haul.

You should really apply everywhere you can and take what you can get. Then, when Chicago tests again, apply. Your experience might give you a leg up at that point.

But whatever you do, finish your degree. It will be quite helpful come promotion time!

Best of luck to you. Stay safe out there, where ever you end up.

  4. I hope the Chicago Police Department has a strict recruitment policy. I would hate to think that the people enforcing the law wouldn't know how to spell wondering or how to work a spell check.
