I'm not downloading something ILLEGAL! But I don't understand why Stephenie Meyer hasn't but anything about it on her website! Are the rumors about her wanting Midnight Sun Leaked true? Also is it just a publicity stunt? I'm really annoyed about it all!

  1. Every hour that goes by and she doesn't say anything about it solidifies my belief that someone in her camp is behind it.  Summit?  Maybe. BD was a gigantic disaster, maybe they want to hype Twilight before the release?

    Either way, nothing is being done.  I have emailed Seth, her webmaster/brother about it- last THURSDAY in fact.  The only sign we have gotten from her is a weepy "feel sorry for me" type status on her myspace.  I believe it says something like, "Camel's back, meet the last straw."

    Meyer took action when BD was leaked.  I can't imagine why she hasn't said anything about this yet.  Does she want everyone in the world to get it?  We don't know where it originated from.  If you ask me- it's the real thing.  Again, if it wasn't she would have come out and said that.

    No idea what is going on.  I'm conducting "Meyer Watch 2008" to see if she comes forward with anything.  She doesn't seem all that concerned that websites are hosting it though.  One website that is hosting it is getting roughly 20,000 hits a day.

    SM had better make up her mind what she wants to do about it. At this point she can't fix it, but she should say SOMETHING.

    And yes, I feel sooooo sorry for her.  She's a multi-millionaire.  She published a terrible book and then got terribly wounded when people didn't adore it.  She is ignoring all negative press- preferring to surround herself with people who tell her she farts rainbows.  And now she's all wounded that people leaked her book.  Personally, I think she's playing up the sympathy angle to make it look like she didn't do it.

    But she totally did.

  2. Check Out Stephenie Meyer's site.www.stepheniemeyer.com

    It wasn't supposed to be shown.

    Its all in the link.

  3. wow i only found out today that there was a midnight sun leak. Your answers are all very...interesting and i agree with most of them. I haven't read the leak....but my friend told me about it. and im very surprised by the amount of people that DONT like BD....i thought it was just me, lol. Anyway i want to read the leak...hehe

    XD

  4. It's been leaked. I read it.

    There's been a lot of discussion about it, and a lot of people agree that this leak was likely on purpose to distract everyone from the Epic Fail that was Breaking Dawn.

    I doubt Stephenie Meyer would say anything about it... The first few chapters of BD were leaked, and I don't think she said anything at all about it. Recognizing it pretty much means it's the real deal.

    Some people think it's a very SM-like fanfic, but... eh. Who knows?

    What we DO know is the only people to have a copy of Midnight Sun besides SM is...

    Rpattzz and Catherine Hardwicke (director of Twilight)

    So, hmm? Who knows?

    Maybe she'll say something. And, even if she doesn't, we'll (hopefully) find out soon enough when it's published!

  5. At first I was sure that Smeyer was doing the leaking. She just updated her page. My heart goes out to her and, being a fellow author, I understand what she means concerning writing any further.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~...
    As some of you may have heard, my partial draft of Midnight Sun was illegally posted on the Internet and has since been virally distributed without my knowledge or permission or the knowledge or permission of my publisher.
    I have a good idea of how the leak happened as there were very few copies of Midnight Sun that left my possession and each was unique. Due to little changes I made to the manuscript at different times, I can tell when each left my possession and to whom it was given. The manuscript that was illegally distributed on the Internet was given to trusted individuals for a good purpose. I have no comment beyond that as I believe that there was no malicious intent with the initial distribution.
    I did not want my readers to experience Midnight Sun before it was completed, edited and published. I think it is important for everybody to understand that what happened was a huge violation of my rights as an author, not to mention me as a human being. As the author of the Twilight Saga, I control the copyright and it is up to the owner of the copyright to decide when the books should be made public; this is the same for musicians and filmmakers. Just because someone buys a book or movie or song, or gets a download off the Internet, doesn't mean that they own the right to reproduce and distribute it. Unfortunately, with the Internet, it is easy for people to obtain and share items that do not legally belong to them. No matter how this is done, it is still dishonest. This has been a very upsetting experience for me, but I hope it will at least leave my fans with a better understanding of copyright and the importance of artistic control.
    So where does this leave Midnight Sun? My first feeling was that there was no way to continue. Writing isn't like math; in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely.
    I'd rather my fans not read this version of Midnight Sun. It was only an incomplete draft; the writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes. But how do I comment on this violation without driving more people to look for the illegal posting? It has taken me a while to decide how and if I could respond. But to end the confusion, I've decided to make the draft available here (at the end of this message on the Midnight Sun page). This way, my readers don't have to feel they have to make a sacrifice to stay honest. I hope this fragment gives you further insight into Edward's head and adds a new dimension to the Twilight story. That's what inspired me to write it in the first place.
    I do want to take a moment and thank the wonderful fans who have been so supportive of me over the past three years. I cannot begin to tell you how much each of you means to me. I only hope this note will stop all the confusion and online speculation so that the Twilight universe can once again become the happy escape it used to be. After this incredibly busy year, I am now focusing on spending more time with my family and working on some other writing projects.
  6. It has indeed been leaked- I have it open right now. Stephanie Meyer released the first few pages of it ages ago just so people could get a feel for what she was doing, but this is the whole first 12 chapters of the book- the copy I have appears to be scanned pages, perhaps from an editor's copy or something.
    Seems quite likely to me that this is something of a publicity stunt- People who like her books will still buy the new series even if they get leaked, and this way hype is built both for the books and the upcoming movie. Seems possible that this could be something of a tradition soon, Meyer getting her books "leaked" a few months in advance so that people get more excited for them.
    For anyone looking to download the leak, I'm not going to post the link here but it's very easy to find if you just type "Midnight Sun leak" into google.
  7. It has been leaked, it isn't just a rumor.
  8. There's been so many rumors and speculation behind this, but yes, it is true that the first 12 chapters were leaked, and they are SM's work clearly by looking at the writing style, and the first chapter was posted on her site as well.
    I don't know why Stephenie would do this as a publicity stunt, however. Or maybe you know, Robert Pattinson or Catherine Hardwick did it for kicks and scanned it in themselves, lol seeing as only they two had official transcripts or something like that.
    If I recall correctly Stephenie hadn't sold the rights to Midnight Sun to her publishing company yet, so the rights are still hers. This means if it IS a publicty stunt, they can't get in trouble with the publishers.
    However, why would she risk not getting published by them after pulling this? It doesn't make sense. Someone else had to have had this transcript and leaked it.
  9. the only reason Stephenie hasn't mentioned it on her website is because she doesnt want to accidentally tell people who don't know about it! she won't address it because it will confirm that there is in fact a bona fide true real copy of midnight sun leaked, and if people know it's the real thing they will read it.
  10. I am guessing her lawyer advised her to say nothing. After all they have to gather evidence and damages for court.If she speaks about it, that will prejudice possible jurors.
  11. Well, something like this could certainly take attention away from the trainwreck that Breaking Dawn has turned out to be.  Additionally, there is buzz created that will bring attention to the movie, and the book when it is finally published next year (I am assuming they will go ahead with publication for next year).
    It looks like either a criminal act (if it was leaked maliciously) or a marketing ploy (if it was done on purpose).
