Whats happens if your fat and the seat belt wont go round you?

Will you get done by the police for not wearing one? Can u get bigger seatbelts fitted?

Just saw a women today who got into her car and didnt put her seatbelt on.....obviously so fat it wouldnt go round her. Just wondered what would happen thats all.

In fact, an ordinary seat belt would have gone round her.  I drive a minibus for elderly people of all shapes and sizes, and the seatbelts will always go round them.  I have not (so far) driven anyone too big for a seatbelt.

The woman you saw today has a legal responsibility to wear a seatbelt, and I am sure that the seatbelt in her car would have fitted her.  If by any chance it didn't, she should have gone to a garage and made sure she had a belt which fitted.

this is a reply to Lisa a. it about what she said in the first paragraph of her answer. he was hardly going to ask her was it because she was to fat that she did not put on her set belt.

Can get a medical certificate, though doctors very reluctant to issue them.

All seat belts have to stretch to reach dashboard so it would have gone around her.

If she was that bulky, it must put a h**l of a strain on the engine to move her weight.

What makes you assume that the person you saw didn't use her seat belt because it wouldn't fit her? Why wouldn't you assume she just doesn't like to use it, like thousands of other people? And that she likes to take her chances with the law, just like many others who don't use seat belts, speed, DUI, etc??

Anyway, to answer your question, if your seat belt will not fit around you, you can get a seat belt extender at the parts department at the dealership.

Seat belt extenders are also used for people like me who are too small/short to wear a seat belt properly. Without the extender, the seat belt goes across my neck. With the extender, it moves to the left, and goes across my shoulder instead of my neck.

They sell extended pieces you can attach, I have seen them in planes too.  The problem is who would have the guts to tell her that.  She might be offended.

The seat belts are designed and manafactured to fit all people, no matter what size you are, they also allow slack to ensure you do not feel tight whilst wearing it (if you do).

In the unlikely event that it doesn't fit, you would have to replace it with a larger one, purchase a lap belt instead, or would you believe it ? Extensions.

The other day, I drove my mother-in-law somewhere for the first time, and she refused to wear her seatbelt.  

She is obese, but still, the seatbelt would have went around her.  

Some people are just too lazy.  Watch how many people won't use their turn signal - and we want them to wear a seat belt?  God forbid!!!

Here in Pennsylvania, its against the law if someone doesn't wear a seatbelt, whether they are anorexic or morbidly obese.  If you are going to be in a car, you HAVE TO wear your seatbelt (though alot of people don't, including my mother-in-law).

Personally, even if I'm just driving 20 feet, I put on my seatbelt.  I feel naked without it.
