Whats happning in the amazon today and why?

  1. Correction:  the Amazon is being DEforested.


  2. The Amazon is being forested for several reasons.

    1) Demand for exotic woods

    2) Demand for farming/grazing lands

    3) Economic advancement

    These are happening because the west is a consumerist society that demands things that are found in the Amazon.  The countries in which the Amazon is found in are developing countries and need money to improve th quality of life of their citizens.  As such they do not have the ability to say no outright.

    EDIT:  Yes, deforested, typo on my behalf.
