  1. Hmmm, well picture this: imagine you at home with your mom, her teaching you everything.

  2. Socializing is as easy or difficult homeschooling or attending school.  It's an individual thing, based on personalitly, which is developed long before school.

If you like to be in large groups, you simply seek those out as a homeschooler.  If you don't like large groups, as a public schooler, you are pretty much stuck coping.

Homeschooling allows more flexiblity for arranging your social interactions.

One thing that I think tends to escape the minds of public schoolers, is that homeschooling isn't like after school, it's more like summer vacation.  If you have a hard time socializing during summers, then you may have a hard time homeschooling.

The rest of the world doesn't shut down when school is in session :D

  3. Socializing is a lot easier, because homeschooling gives you the freedom to determine your own schedule and actually BE out in society on a regular basis.  School takes place at any time, not just from 9 to 3, so social activities can happen any time.

My son is more social now than he ever was in school - because he has the freedom to be.

  4. Socializing time?

    Yes, very hard....

    I simply don't like it....

    =)

  5. Not at all!

My daughter has a more active social life now than when she was in public school. It is better in many ways because you do have to develop social skills. You have to create your own circle of friends. They can't just be the people who are stuck in the locker next to yours. It is no different than the way you will socialize as an adult.

She learns more and she plays more. Homeschool is win / win for her.

  6. Socializing isn't hard. We leave the house and do things with other people-- viola! Socialization. Sunday school, scouting, youth groups, community center classes, sport teams, karate, chess club, library groups, homeschool co-ops, park days, field trips, visiting friends, playing with the neighborhood kids outside in the afternoons-- we've got more socialization here than we can shake a stick at.

The beauty of homeschooling is, it is what you make it. You can make it very structured and take on advanced studies. You can make it very creative and artistic. You can make it very hands-on with lots of projects and experiements. You can make it very socially active by getting involved in many different classes and activities and volunteer opportunities in your neighborhood. You can make it a mixture of whatever you like. You can work in the evenings and go out all day. You can work on weekends or through the summer and take off weeks during Spring and Fall when the weather is nice.  You can do your math in your pajamas or at a picnic in the park.

It's flexible, you make what you want of it.

  7. Homeschooling is very relaxing. You can stay in your PJ's all day, you can go out and see a movie, if you finish your school quickly. You can go anywhere, and not have to worry about homework. You don't have to stay up all night studying. You can get up when you want to, you can be done with school for the year if you really get into it, and get ahead of yourself.

People think homeschooling is so stupid, and that the people that are homeschooled are geeks or nerds or whatnot. Well they aren't. They are just regular kids who happen to do school at home. Nothing out of the ordinary. Yeah they might be smarter then some kids, but that doesnt mean they are geeks or anything. I love homeschooling, its waaaaay better then public school!

Just because your homeschooled doesnt mean you cant have any friends. I actually have more friends then i did in public school. I do more activities, I can accel myself at anything i want to do. I love being homeschooled because you get to meet many new people, and they are all sooo very nice. Socializing is deffinitly NOT hard, unless your a little shy. but even then, homeschoolers are soo nice, and they are many people who homeschool now.

    Homeschool is great!

  8. Tons of homeschooling groups to join who meet throughout the week so the kids can get together and play or learn together. I have seen very few homeschooled kids with lack of socialization. I am reading today on this board however that there are a few who's parents aren't as active in the homeschool experience as they should be. I find that sad. Its a parents duty to see to it that their kids have a way of finding friends as well as get their education. I'm sorry for the children who's parents dont find time to get together with other homeschoolers and other children.

  9. I like homeschooling 10x better than a traditional school. Socializing? My friends spend way more time with me now that I am not seeing them every single day. I have also made more friends through the program. I love it.

  10. Nooo.  Actually it's not.  I am SO glad I home school!  People have this misconception that just because you learn at home you don't see anyone or know how to socialize.  School isn't about socializing- it's about learning.  I have tons of friends at my co-op, church, band, ballet, neighborhood.  There are other places in the world to get to know people :)

  11. I used to be homeschooled my first semester of freshman year high school... its not bad, I actually really liked it

  12. Socialization is easier for homeschoolers than it is for children in public school. Children in public schools are stuck in classes all day. Homeschoolers can get together anytime.

    HOMESCHOOL ALL THE WAY !
