  1. Syrup of ipecac is an emetic used to induce vomiting in cases of accidental poisoning. In earlier times, it was used as an expectorant, that is, to produce thinner phlegm. However, the American Academy of Pediatrics and other organizations no longer recommend ipecac because it can delay administration of more effective antidotes, it's actions may mimic various poisons, and it may not remove the offending substance from the stomach.

Apomorphine is a very potent emetic. Various antimony compounds also produce violent vomiting. In fact, there is a very small window between the good and the bad effects of emetics. They can be dangerous poisons.

I hope there is not a deeper reason for asking your question, namely, that you do not have bulimia.

  2. Ipecac is an emetic, meaning a substance that is used to induce vomiting. Ipecac is used at home in cases of accidental poisoning.
