  1. Here in Jacksonville, FL you must turn 5 on or before September 1 of the year you want to attend. Say if you were turning 5 on September 1, 2008, you could start K this year. If your birthday is September 2, you must wait until next year.

  2. In California, the child must turn 5 by December 2nd.  So we have some kinders starting who are 4!  Personally I think it is too early, the cutoff should be September 1st

  3. Every school district is different. You will have to contact your local school district and ask them. They likely have a website with that information or just call them.

In many districts, the cut-off is in September. In our district, however, they had to turn 5 before March 1 of the current school year. (So, to start kindergarTen this year, the child would have to turn 5 before March 1, 2009.)

  4. This brochure lists cut off dates for kindergarten in all states. They are generally the same in pre-k. Look on page 2 for the list.

  5. You can look up the school system's website or just call your local school tomorrow.  I work in an elementary school we kid about having a push 1 to change your child's way home, press 2 to find out when your child can start school.  :)

  6. can start this year, cutoff in December
