  1. chow mein is the main meal of the day, hence, 'chow'.

and lo mein is the smalles meal of the day.

chow mein uses big fat think nooddles, where as lo mein uses thin noddles.

  2. The noodles.

  3. Chow mein is a chinese-american dish that consists of small pieced of meat or shrimp, mushrooms or onions, the ingredients are usually fried separately, then combined at the last minute.  Lo mein is boiled noodles combined with stir fry ingredients which are tossed together at the last minute.

  4. Chow Mein on the West Coast means a thin noodle dish with vegetables and/or meat added.

Chow Mein on the East Coast means a dish with cut celery pieces and much less noodle. Lo Mein on the East Coast is the equivalent of Chow Mein on the West Coast.

  5. chow mein has fried noodles, lo mein does not.

  6. I work at a chinese restaurant, Chow mein is allot of nappa or cabbage and onions with your choice of meat. It depends on where you live what kind of cabbage is used

Lo Mein is noodles, thin or thick ones and Mei Fun is the thin rice noodles

  7. There's a big difference between Chow Mein & Lo Mein.

Chow Mein usually has a mixture of veggies (onions, celery, cabbage, bean sprouts) in a thick white or brown sauce.  Chinese restaurants/take out joints usually offer some fried crispy noodles (the kind you get with soup) and it is served over steamed rice.  --- CHOP SUEY is very similar to Chow Mein, it has much more vegetables like broccoli, bell pepper, bok choy.  This is also served with rice.

Lo Mein is stir fried chinese egg noodles cooked with scallions, onions, carrots & meat, shrimp or added veggies.  This is usually cooked with some soy sauce.

Can't say which is better, it really depends on your preference.  Personally, I like Roast Pork Lo Mein.

  8. I think it is the type of noodle used.

  9. I have no idea what you're talking about by the second item - I only know the Chinese spellings.  But I can guess, based on the spelling.  I think the first is stir-fried and the second is boiled.

  10. Usually Chow Mein is stir fried. In Lo Mein the noodles are traditionally not fried but are added to the dish after the vegetables and/or meat are fried.

  11. one of the is i think thin and one of them is like long and wide and flat

  12. Chicken chow mein = chicken with assorted veggies

Chicken lo mein = chicken with noodle

    I prefer lo mein

  13. i think lo mein is softer to your tongue. chow mein is more chewy

  14. Lo Mein is a thicker noodle.
