I high school you can be on one of 3 teams, there is an all freshman team, the Jr. Varsity and the Varsity....

The Varsity team is for the Elite athletes....

It is the highest level of basketball that is offered by a high school. It is a team where the best players are put to compete against other schools best players.

Usually you come to be on the Varsity team by first playing on the freshman and/or Junior Varsity team, then when becoming either a junior or a senior, you could be put on the Varsity team.

However some players are good enough to be on the Varsity team when they are either freshman or sophomores.
