Whats is wrong with my DVD player?

i have a durabrand 7"screen portable dvd player. it takes 4hours to charge, or more...but i went to take it off charge one day (it had been 3 hours since it was put on charge, it was dead before i started to charge it. And it had a MAJOR metallic scent to it. so i seperated the battery and the unit, thinking the battery blew up. well the battery no longer smells. but when i sniff the inside of the unit it still stinks- not as bad though. it been like 3 weeks since ive discovered this. what could the problem be? how can i fix it? whats durabrands support line, if there is one- i couldnt find it online. please help!

The part that confuses me is that, despite the scent of the player it still works....when its plugged into the ac adaptor. it now refuses to charge the battery though.

How long have you had the battery for? After 1000 charges most rechargeable batteries are no good anymore.

This would be hard to fix unless you had another player with which to play the swap game, or test equipment.

If you have a friend with the same player, you could try plugging their battery into your system VERY BRIEFLY to see if it works.  If it does, then maybe the battery is just bad.

If you have a voltmeter, you can check the battery to see whether there is a charge on it.

Upon finding that the battery has gone bad, you could simply get a replacement.  However, if the charging circuit in the actual player has gone bad, you need to choose between either living with the AC adapter, or getting an entirely new player.

Durabrand Doesn't have a web site because they are made by someone else.  All I could find out there was a support site. However this is not a Durabrand provided support it is a customer support.

Sounds like to me that your battery went bad.  You could try and get a new one at like batterys plus.  Sounds like it never worked right at all taking 4 hours to charge.
