Is it different from living in America?? I'm hoping to move there wen I'm 19 and out of school (I'm so tired of stupid America is amazing c**p, I hate it here!!). Will I be treated diffently because I'm American? Do they have good colleges?? Is it hard to find a good job, like say psychologist or something like that??

  1. Yes, they have great colleges. Oxford? Many of the colleges in England have higher standards than we do (to say the least). FYI Most Americans wouldn't even have half a chance to get into a German university.

First off, you will want to look into the rules of obtaining work, as you will not be a British citizen. Just like the USA, you have to have a work permit to gain employment over there.

  2. Firstly, yes, the culture is different, but you would expect that. Perhaps you could come over here for a couple of months on a working holiday visa and see how you like living here before you move permanently?

People dislike America for one (very good) reason: George W. Bush. However, assuming you don't ever let on that you support him (if McCain and Obama came up for election amongst the British, Obama would win a landslide election win, simply because he's not Republican) then you will be fine. We DO differentiate between American politics and American people.

We have excellent universities - in fact, 4 out of 10 of the worlds top universities are in the UK (the other 6 are in the US) which is pretty good going considering that the UK is only about the size of 1 US state, with a fifth of the overall population. The best universities for psychology are (in order) Cambridge, Oxford, York, St Andrews, UCL, Glasgow, Bristol, Exeter, Cardiff, Surrey.

  3. ive never been to America so i cant compare. But Americans arent treated differently. In fact the Americans i have met seem to be liked more! The colleges are excellent and England has a long history of Educational excellence. Psychology is a very popular degree course at university! And i KNOW that it is very competitive but if you are determined you will get there. It takes 3 years at uni, then a further 2 yrs postgraduate (excludin experience!) Good luck

If you got any more questions on England just email me

  4. It isn't that good here so I'd lower your expectations if I were you.

As for the treatment you can expect, the people who tend to be better disposed towards Americans in Britain are those who have never met one.

I'm sure you're lovely - but just don't expect people to be welcoming you with open arms.

  5. im in the exact same situation as you!
