Whats it like to live in LA?

L.A.'s a blast!  Lots to do here.  And, no, it is not always warm here.  But it is seldom cold.

i live an hour away but i go there lots...weather is nice and lots of shopping spots and you see celebrities everywhere  restaurants,gyms,etc

I can't imagine living anywhere else!  LA is a huge, bustling metropolis.  There's always something to do, somewhere to go, or something to see.  Fabulous restaurants, great museums, good night life.  And it's a convenient place to live, too, because so much stuff is open 24 hours...grocery stores, gyms, laundromats, restaurants.  People come here from all over the world, so the population is really diverse.  And LA is convenient to so many fun places to visit:  a couple hours from San Diego and Mexico, four hours from Vegas, an hour or two to the mountains for camping and skiing in the winter, and, of course, the beach.

Of course, there's lots of problems with it, too.  Traffic and freeway congestion are really bad.  And our legendary smog problems.  And lots of people simply don't like living in such a huge city.  But for my tastes, LA is the best.

As for the weather, it's not always warm, but it is always mild.  There are no huge extremes to our weather.  This summer, the temperatures have been ranging from the 70s to the 90s.  Near the coast it is cooler, and it the valleys, it is hotter.  There have been some 100+ days, but not *too* many.

At the end of summer and into early fall, we get the Santa Ana winds, which is when there's a change in the normal air pressure system.  Instead of getting a cool ocean breeze, the direction of the wind changes, and we get hot, dry winds from the inland areas.  A lot of people don't like the Santa Anas, because they can really make allergy or sinus problems worse, if people have those.

Winters are mild, with daytime temperatures maybe in the 50s or 60s.  But it's not unusual to have a winter day in the low 70s, too.  At nighttime, the temperatures can dip down into the 40s.  Most of our rain comes January through March.  No snow to speak of, except in the mountains in the outlying areas.

Short answer: it's very crowded, and very expensive. Is it fun? Just depends on the person, some people enjoy themselves here, others don't.  Is it always warm here? No. Winter overnight temps in the L.A. basin can sometimes dip into the mid to upper 30"s, and in the high desert areas it can get well below freezing. Day time winter temps are  usually in the mid 40's to low 50's.

It CAN be fun. Los Angeles is what you make it. Some people find it exciting, lively, full of energy, etc. while others find it plastic and too busy.

L.A. almost always has great weather, particularly in beach/coastal towns like Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, etc. Those places are perfect, usually around 70-75 degrees F. Some places get a little too hot for my liking, especially parts of the San Fernando Valley, where it's often 90 to 100 degrees +  in the summertime.

There's a lot of famous shopping areas in Los Angeles, like Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Even if people can't afford the stuff (since it's one of the most expensive shopping districts in the world), it's still fun to "window shop" and explore the area, maybe see a celebrity or two.

It is always fun if you party and love to shop!!!!  The art scene is getting better and better too.  Celebrity chef restaurants and wide range of cuisines are available in LA.  Centrally located, so if you need to get away for the weekend, vegas and palm springs are not far from LA.  Can get very hot during the summer, but the beach in santa monica or malibu can be a good escape, or just stay home and turn on the a/c, or go to the beverly hills shopping center to do some serious shopping and enjoy the a/c.  

But one very downside of living in LA is...the BAD traffic.  Public transportation is still not very good yet.  You can easily get stuck in traffic for up to 2 hours.  So be prepared!

when it rains, it gets reallyyyy cold, & it rains mostly in the winter too...  ya the theme parks r fun, but it's not guarenteed ur always gonna have fun there.  oh yea, lots of crime too.

the weather is great, i never really see celeberties, though i have seen some on sunset blvd and at LAX (airport). The theme parks are awsome, beaches are ok. It's pretty nice here.
