  1. I use to live on Oahu  in Millilani. I loved it, originally from Ca. The prices are very high from food to housing, but there is a lot of free things to do. Plus if your a local you get Kamahina(I can't remember how to spell it) rate which is a discount on shows and activities all you need is a driver license or a checking account tp prove your a resident. Millilani is 20 min. from Waikiki and 20 min from North shore. There isn't to many tourist there just locals. I'd go back if I could

  2. I just moved back from Oahu to the mainland about 9 months ago. It is incredibly difficult to live there in term so finances and the job market is really difficult. It has one of the most expensive costs of living of anywhere in the US and what you pay for really isn't worth it. If you like air conditioning, good luck finding it there and it will cost an arm and a leg. There really isn't anything reasonable about any island and cost. The job market is incredibly tight and it took me over a year to find a job.

I lived there for over five years and here is my suggestion to anyone thinking of moving there to live. Go to visit for a few days. Find out where you want to live and join in the two hour rush hour traffic. Look at the supermarket prices of what you want to buy (make a list and tally and see that it can be three times as much). Look at the gas prices and remember that it is two to three months behind the trends. Look at airfare and see if you can handle that price to visit friends and family on the mainland because you will get lonely because it is an island. Just do your research and fully understand before you move.

  3. Kids grow up, become adults, get married and live with their own families inside their parents homes.  You can have 4 or more families under that same roof.  That should tell you all you need to know.... Wages are low and the cost of living astronomical.

  4. It's expensive and jobs pay less than comparable jobs on the mainland. But if you're wealthy or don't have to worry about money, then it's nice here because there are many things to do outdoors (beaches, hiking, camping, etc.).
