  1. If you find Masterton not quite you, Try Greytown just down the road. Both are very rural but I find Greytown rather quaint . A great growing area for gardens. I wouldn't want to have to drive to Wellington to often as the Rimituka hill is long winding and narrow.

  2. its a bit of a backwater

wonderful climate, low employment, small town NZ, hour and a half to decent shopping and the capital

  3. A big country town. Rather nice

  4. Are you from NZ? Or overseas?

Masterton gets a bit of a bad rep sometimes for being very ‘kiwi’. But to be honest it is simply a larger rural town with some quite lovely historic houses and historical features and other parts of it are simply typical small town NZ which can be very nice. It has transport links to Wellington city –not a lot but many people do commute now. www.metlink.org.nz for timetables.

Also, because it is not in Wellington but still within a commutable distance (albeit a long commute) much of the Wairarapa (the Region which includes Masterton) is still very affordable for housing – both purchasing and renting.

There are some ‘bad’ parts of Masterton but you would learn quickly where those areas are so I wouldn’t worry too much at all.

Check trademe on www.trademe.co.nz to see the properties for sale and the flatmates wanted section to get an idea of the houses.
