2) You assume that the conscious and unconscious brain/mind  are separate. It is one entity.

1) It depends on who or what "Them" are. With poltergiests, ghosts, and spirirts it is more important that they notice that you notice them. That is if you feel interactions are important.

For demons, beasts or creatures it is more important that you notice them as it is too dangerous for them to notice you.

As with any supernatural beings, please do not try to conjure up or contact without having a professional with you. The results are never what you expect.
