Your question implies they are mutually exclusive. Not in the least. Companies cannot profit unless people make voluntary transactions which have value to them. If people are not helped by someone -- i.e. receive value -- they will not transact, and there would be no profit.

It depends on what you value. Helping people is good because by doing so, they come back to you for more. However, people in business don't usually help others at their expense.

Well, from a moral standpoint, helping people is a profit in itself.  

From a business standpoint...of course you want to help people as well, or else how do you get them to keep coming back to you to make your profit off of them?  

So either way...helping people is probably a good start.
