I know they cut the price by a good, $100 dollars. What did they take away?

  1. I don't think they took away anything. Prices always drop on products. I bought a laptop for $599.99 back in May, it had 1GB memory and 160GB HDD. Now, for the same exact price (or maybe even less), you can get a laptop with 3GB memory and 320GB HDD. See how the prices went down from last May? They always go down no matter what, which is why you should buy things later on when they're cheaper. In this case, I think the PS3 just went down in price, since its almost 2 years old now. Hope this helped!

  2. its the same as the old 40gb, except it now has 80 gb, and it comes with a dualshock 3. also, in november, a 160gb model is being released, and its being bundled with uncharted. its pretty awesome :O

  3. its not really a price cut, what they are going to do is in September they will pull the 40gb off the shelves which costs 399 and replace it with the 80gb for the same price 399.

  4. First, it's been a while since the ps3's began being sold.

Secondly, it has none of these 60GB functions:

    backwards compatibility

    wireless networking

    card reading pane

    80GB: 4 USB slots; 40GB: 2 USB slots

But, what's most annoying - the japanese version has following features

    2 HDMI outputs

    4 front USB slots

    2 back USB slots

    wireless networking

built-in backwards compatibility (which means, any game can be played. I've got probles with my 60GB version playing PS2 games, for it is a software solution)

    card reading pane

    sold in different colors

all these things make a price drop of about 100$ not too hard :)
