just stay away from the garvaghy rd during marching season, you will see the ugly side of the Protestant community putting the local residents under siege for no reason

It's not bad for shopping, but I wouldn't say it is a particularly good place for a weekend away! It's quite close to Craigavon, that's good for shopping too but not much else.

Portadown is good for shopping. However I would advise you go to Belfast for a weekend away. As it has everything from shopping to a good night life.
