  1. kim_dude is right. All you other people don't know what you are talking about.

Surfing with power means that you are surfing with speed, aggression and commitment.

The opposite of power surfing is doing technical tricks like chop hops, or any trick that doesn't involve moving large amounts of water.

  2. Power surfing is the same as strap surfing, in which you are towed out to the wave and you can do crazy manuevers while on the board, similar to snowboarding only wetter.

  3. Power surfing is for big wave surfers usually.  There is a strap attached to the board so the surfer can be towed into the wave that is far too big for paddling.  The maximum paddling wave is somewhere around 25' or so at most.   The strap provides the surfer a better way to stand on the board while being towed in and the surfers are usually towed in by jet ski by the way.  Hope this helps :D

  4. There are 2 answers.

    1) In surfing: the same of "tow surfing" (with foot-strap mounted on surfboard) , where only using the support of a motorboat is possible to surf waves too big and quick for "swimming" (or paddling: see also S.U.P.: stand up paddle board)

    2) In windsurfing (especially in Europe): to meet all wind condition (from light to strong wind) having 2 o 3 boards (for example: 1 wave+1slalom+1 formula board or : 1 freemove+1 formula boards or: 1 wave board+1 big slalom board about 130 liters) and 4 or 5 rig (sails). Classic definition is related to 2 boards and 4 sails.

  5. Power surfing has to do with your style.  It is generally done by bigger surfers, such as Sunny Garcia and Pancho Sullivan, and is notably different in that rather than being flowing or being about airs you see lots or large hacks and carving cutbacks.  Essentially it is about moving as much water as possible during your maneuvers.  Difficult to explain but easy to recognize when it is being done well.

Tow surfing is tow surfing, it is never called power surfing.  I stopped reading the thing about windsurfing cause... who really cares about wind surfing.
