  1. Stratego is a strategy in which 2 players have a set number of pieces with numbers 2-9 and also a spy and a flag, with bombs. They set up their pieces where the highest numbers can kill the lower numbers. Each number has its own special abilities. The object is to capture the opponent's flag.

  3. It is spelled Stratego and, as you would guess, it's a total game of strategy. The whole point of the game is to capture the opponent's flag.

The board consists of many squares. They are arranged in a 10-by-10 formation. However, there are only 92 squares on the board. This is because there are two 2-by-2 "lakes" that cannot be passed through.

Each "army" is composed of 40 pieces. There are soldiers labeled 1-9.

1 is the Marshal. There is one of him in each army.

2 is the General. Also one of him in each army.

3s are the Colonels. Two of them

4s are Majors. Three of them

5s are Captains. Four of them.

6s are Lieutenants. Four of them.

7s are Sergeants. Four of them.

8s are Miners. Five of them.

9s are scouts. Eight of them.

There is also one spy who has an S in the place of a number.

    Also, there are non-movable pieces.

    Bombs. Six of them.

    Flag. One of it.

Each army arranges their pieces in a perfect 4-by-10 rectangle. Remember, you win by getting the opponents flag, so it's set up in a safe place.

    Gameplay:

On the first move, any moveable piece can be moved one, and only one, space horizontal or vertical. NOT DIAGONAL! The only piece that can move more than one space at a time is a scout. Movement must be moved in a straight line and cannot go through pieces on your side or thhe opponents side.

When a piece hits another piece, war breaks out! The attacker, or the one that moved into the other piece, reveals his number. If the other person has a lower number, it is revealed and taken off the battle field. If the number is the same, both pieces are removed. If the number is more, the defender may say, "Silent Defense," and the attacker is removed from play. THE PERSON WHO SAYS SILENT DEFENSE DOES NOT REVEAL HIS/HER NUMBER! The only exception to this rule is the scout. The defender always must show the number no matter what.

The spy is the weakest and strongest piece in the game. Anything kills it but the Marshal. What's more, the Marshal kills the spy if the Marshal is the attacker. The spy must be the attacker to kill the Marshal.

Bombs kill anything on the field that bump into them. When a piece crashes into one, the piece is removed while the bomb remains there. You cannot say "silent defense" for a bomb. One piece can remove bombs, though. The miner removes them if he bonks into them.

Well, I think I have covered everything. Happy playing!

  4. Stratego is a board game invented in 1947 based on Napoleonic warfare in which players control an army of 40 pieces. The board is a 10x10 grid with two 2x2 lakes in the middle. The lakes are impassable. (In some editions of the game the "bomb" piece is a "cannon" and can fire over the lake.) The goal of the game is to capture the other player's flag with any piece you control (The exception is a "bomb" or "flag" which cannot be moved in the game.) The game is simple to learn and is considered the grandfather to modern day block-wargames. (Examples include Hammer of the Scots.. Napoleon.. and Badges of Courage)

@Jake (the post below this one)

Silent Defense is a variant.. and not an official rule in the game. In the official rules of the game.. both pieces are revealed simultaneously.

  5. It's a strategic board game where you have little castles that attack other castles. You set up a whole army but the other player can't see the set up seeing as the pictures are turned to you. It consists of soldiers, bombs and a flag for each side. Certain ranks beat others. And there's bombs which only a certain rank can get rid off.The main goal is to protect your flag. It's complicated.

    And it's spellt stratego ;)
