  1. Get a teaching degree and become certified.

Subs are teachers who don't have full time jobs yet, or teachers who have retired.

  2. Depends on the state, in CA you need 90 units and have passed the CBEST test.

In WA, you need a full credential.

  3. You do not need a teaching degree to substitute teach. But, it varies from state to state and sometimes from school district to school district. I would call the school district you're interested in subbing in and ask them. Sometimes, all you need to do is get your fingerprints taken and then fill out an applications--once that's turned in you could be getting calls within a day (I did!).

    Good luck!

  4. I think it really depends on the state you are in.  However, I know that in my state (Indiana) I had to get a substitute teaching license (i.e. pay like $15 for it... no big deal) and take a CPR/First-Aid course.  I don't think it matters if you are a high school graduate, current college student, licensed teacher, etc.  I am pretty sure that anyone can substitute, as long as they don't have a criminal background.  However, the pay sometimes varies based upon level of education.  I would definitely go and talk to the school district that you want to substitute in, they will tell you their requirements.  Hope this helps!  Good luck!  Substitute teaching is so rewarding!
