I want to be an english teacher in America, and I'd just like to know some stuff about school. How do the pupils treat the teachers generally in your school?

  1. In general, school in America sucks. The students don't have any respect for the teachers. The teachers don't give a ***** if the students do well or if they learn anything. I am an American teenager. I'm living in Israel right now, just for one year. School is so much better here. I'm totaly dreading high school in the States. Trust me, you don't want to teach in America. Oh, and I've been to private school and public school in the states. Private school is so much better. I suppose teaching in a private school wouldn't be so bad. At least the students might be behaved.

  2. Especially in younger ages, the teachers are treated well. However, as they get older the teachers are not treated as kindly- especially substitute teachers!

  3. That's a very difficult question to answer because schools vary from state to state , city to city, or even from one community to another.  Teachers that work in urban(  low socioeconomic level) schools have completely different problems -----------disrespectful students low parent participation high teacher turn over rate-----then teachers that work in suburban schools

  4. BE CARFULE

  5. I've been a teacher for 9 years and I'd suggest you pick a different profession if possible.

I think most teachers are hard-working professionals who are very good at what they do AND they do care about their students.

The problem is that it is a difficult job to be a teacher.

It requires a lot of mental focus and emotional energy.

For the same amount of energy, you could be a lawyer making

    much more money.

  6. wow in  English  i must say is one of the worst classes that kids treat the teachers like junk. well that was how it was in my English class this year...but the kids are just jerks in all classes...but in younger grades they r lot better i say k-3 is not that bad at talking back and being jerks sorry it is the truth so i would think twice before coming here... :(

  7. Well they are rude and dissrespectful ... well some of them but most of them are really rude so watch out!

  8. It depends on the school district.  Sadly, there are school districts where there are police officers stationed permanently in the school.  Some school districts have their own police forces.  But there are some truly outstanding schools.  Many private schools enforce student codes of conduct better because they have written permission to use corporal punishment (and they expel the really unruly kids).  But the private schools tend to pay less.  I think that you said in a previous question that you are from Ireland.  In the US, private schools require tuition to be paid by the parents while public schools are paid by the tax payers.  In the US, the public school system is highly decentralized with decisions about curriculum and text books made by the county or state (rather than by the federal govt in Washington). IMHO, becoming an attorney has its own share of problems. True, they may earn more $, but there are a lot of depressed lawyers.  I think that your desire to become an English teacher in the US is admirable-- looking at the spelling and grammar in yahoo answers, your services are greatly needed!  I even noticed that there are ppl who forget to use a capital "E" when spelling English. haha
