  1. Nothing at all... they only do it because others do it.. but you can have fun without alcohol.. it's always good that someone keeps a clear head and drinking a little bit at a party is ok but it's horrible when people don't know anymore what they are doing and embarrass themselves or pass out or their drinking leads to an addiction and they become alcoholics and can't live without it.. it's ok from a certain age onwards to drink in moderation.. Red wine is best.. because it actually is good for your heart.. it is beneficial but also only one glass.. so in moderation.. White wine has no beneficial effects.. but red wine actually protects the heart... that is why people who drink that in moderation when older run a lesser risk of getting a heart attack.. and smoking is an addiction after a while.. it turns into a craving.. and it buys you ill health.. you spend $ 9 per packet of cigarettes and if you smoke one packet a day.. it definitely doesn't make a person fitter or improves health.. it can lead to heat disease or COPD over a long period of time.. now Amy Winehouse.. she took drugs and she smoked.. now she suffers from mild emphysema. that means.. the lungs are like sponges.. and a part of her lungs are damaged..  so she got one choice.. she is 27 or 26..  she needs to stop now otherwise this will get worse and normally this disease emphysema doesn't occur in young people her age.. but it's  bad for your health to smoke.. and it costs a lot of money which you could spend on a little trip or use it for something nice.. it goes into hundreds of dollars if one spends $ 9 on cigarettes per day and that alone is not cool and the risk that it can cause heart disease or COPD.. Chronic obstructive Pulmonary disease when a person is 45 or 50 is not nice.. it can shorten life expectancy.. xx

  2. Nothing... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!  If you choose not to participate, then DON'T!!!  Don't let anyone pressure you into doing something you feel is wrong or you are uncomfortable being around.  And that goes for ANYONE at ANY AGE, too!

I tried smoking for a couple of weeks when I was in college. It was a dirty, smelly habit that I decided gave me no "pleasure," so I stopped, and have never smoked since.

    Have a polite day.

  3. Life is about choices - things you do and things you don't do - worry about yourself and not what others do.

  4. For underage people, it seems fun because it makes them feel like adults.  They feel like they're doing something taboo and getting away with it.

Other than that, it's not about fun.  Most smokers that I know smoke because they tried it at a young age and became addicted, not because it was fun.

As for drinking, it's just a nice social activity.  Again, there are those who become addicted, just like smokers.

  5. Drinking can help you relax, but you have to be careful and not drive.  I have no idea why people smoke.  It's expensive, stinky, ruins a womans complexion, and gives you lung cancer.

  6. Drinking can be fun if you play drinking games and for socializing. I know people smoke because it helps you to relax.

  7. the reckless behavior that follows

  8. when i was in hs my town had nothing better to do. sometimes u get a thrill sometimes its just ehh whatever. theres nothing wrong with  not doing it.  its nothing special

  9. I stopped smoking 9 years ago, but I still occasionally drink.

  10. people underage think it makes them look cool or grown up. for the rest of us who are legal age, it's just an acquired habit that some of us wish we didn't have. nothing really great about it.

  11. Don't smoke. I quit smoking 10 years ago after 20 years at 2 packs a day.

I lost 40 lbs. and am much more active.

I can't advise u on the alchohol since I am legally allowed to drink. (And do!)

  12. Your friends are right. Both drinking and msoking can reduce tension and create euphoria, a feeling of happiness or well-being. Drinking reduces shyness and inhibitions. Your friends are young enough to be enjoying these good effects without yet experiencing, or seeing in others, the bad effects that can come with long-term use, so naturally, they're enthusiastic.

However, there's a heavy price to be paid for that bit of "fun," one that you'll see more and more as you get older. Drinking damages the teenage brain, which is not fully grown, and can cause alcoholism and, after many years, death from liver disease. A teenager who drinks heavily has the brain of an *old person.*  Yuck. Smoking does no real harm at first, but it is very addictive, and after many years of smoking, smokers sometimes die of it. Fun this stuff may be, but harmless it ain't: smoking can kill you and alcohol can ruin your life. Not kid stuff anymore, eh? If you must do these things yourself, do them moderately, because otherwise you *will* pay.
