  4. Great as in large , impressively big. Water is necessary to sustain life ( there is plenty of h2o in the great lakes . The water also fosters trade by, among other things , making transport easy.

  5. Because lakes are a source of food, transportation and fun (ice staking and swimming). People move there because of the bigger cities, like Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, and Buffalo. Canadians probably live there because its one of the warmest parts of their country.
