they were created by a japanese dude who i forget the name of., anyways he's in a japanese hip-hop called called teriyaki boyz and him and his band would always wear them at their gigs and they gained popularity. All the lovely little gangster folk in the US thought it was rad so they wanted to wear them too.. even though they're totally not worthy of wearing such awesome hoodies and the like.
