    It's a major holiday in the British Ilse and the Carribean Islands.

  5. In England the day after Christmas is a holiday and is called Boxing Day. It was a tradition for tradesmen and others to call at the houses they regularly delivered to and to ask for donations in their box. For the tradesmen it was like a Christmas bonus. I don't know when the custom died out but it is still a holiday and is now usually the start of the January sales.

    It is also the feast day of St Stephen. He was the first martyr to Christianity. His story is in the Acts of the Apostles.

    1. Lost of stores are slashing prices to get rid of the overstocked items left over from the Christmas shoppers.
