  1. Why do you think prison is the universal punishment for criminals? If it wasn't unpleasant, it wouldn't be used.

  2. What's so wrong with captivity? Maybe the fact that cows, pigs, chicken, etc., are not made to live in crowded factories where they have never even felt the sun on their skin through their whole life. Maybe because it isn't natural to give chickens so many hormones to the point where they suffer and cannot even get up to eat food, then die. Maybe the fact that god intended no animal to die while hung upside down, conscious, and slit open, sometimes skinned alive. Ever thought of that? Btw, PETA "a vegan thing" kills animals while doing tests.

  3. Nearly all of the cows and chickens in "captivity" are forced to live in their own urine and f***s.

  4. I'll put you in a cage and prod you with sticks and laugh at you how would you like that!

  5. You are liable to get conflicting answers as people view things differently. While one vegan may abhor the practice of raising animals for food, he/she won't have any qualms about keeping an animal as a pet. Another may be against ALL forms of human-animal contact outside of distant observation. An omnivore may approve of raising animals for food but will protest against  domestic animal cruelty. This seemingly paradoxical view seems lost on some animal rights activists because they do not delineate between pets and livestock.

However, the majority of people do not view captivity of animals for human purpsoes as wrong. It is the treatment of the animals during this captivity that is most often the point of contention. Own a pet, jsut don't beat it to death. Raise livestock, just don't raise them in inhhumane conditions. Kill for food, just don't prolong the suffereing that already condemend animals have to go through. Etc

Yes PETA thinks captivity is bad so they just killed the animals in their shelters outright so as not to subjetct them to "captivity".

As one poster mentioned, PETA is never a reliable source of information.

As PETA boss Ingrid Newkirk herself said

"PETA's publicity formula -- eighty percent outrage, ten percent each of celebrity and truth"

You decide if "ten percent truth" is reliable at all.

FYI these are pictures of how most dairy cows live. It is not in the dairy farmers interest to treat his/her cows badly as they will not be productive. PETA would like people to believe otherwise (and some people actually do) because it supports their agenda. By the way, peta.com/peta2.com are not the only PETA sponsored websites. So even a  seeminglky "non-PETA" source is just another PETA shadow.

  6. I personally don't see anything wrong with it. The fact is, these animals are being bred for meat and milk and other food so they wouldn't even be alive if it wasn't for captivity and I can't understand how people know exactly what a cow is feeling.

  7. My dog enjoys a delightful captivity.  I feed her daily, brush her, walk her, pick up her p**p, keep her safe and dry, as well as love her.

But a dairy cow spends her life in a barn, being pumped full of hormones and hooked up to a milking machine no matter how sore and bloody her udders are.  This life is so hard on her, she will be all used up and sent to slaughter in about 2 years.  Her normal lifespan would be about 20 years.

How about we put you in jail and see how you like it?  Maybe artificially inseminate you, take your baby away, and then pump your milk all day every day.  What's so wrong with that?

these videos show some different views...some animals, without captive breeding would not be here, but those, such as orcas that are not endangered, need to be in the wild.

in tennessee, i remember i was little and they had black bears in wire cages in a dim lit room with concrete floors. that is not okay when there is the great smoky mountain national park there where black bears can roam in the wild.

but then, there are animals that after getting injured, would not be able to survive in the wild, in that case, captivity would be in the best intrest for the animal

  9. COW AND PIGS ARENT MADE TO LIVE IN A LITTLE CAGE.  HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE PUT IN A 5 * 5 CAGE UNTIL SOMEONE DECIDED TO EAT YOU.

  10. How about we put you in a cage and deprive you of your free will to live your life as you see fit?  I think you'd be able to answer your own question after too long.

Or you know, ask someone who's been in prison how they liked it.

  11. How would you like to live somewhere against your will?

  12. I don't see any bad in captivity as long as its not an obviously wild animal or if its in captivity to be slaughtered and eaten! Other than that its great as long as the owners and loving and caring people!

  13. It's not so much the captivity as certain breeders, companies, circuses, etc., where the CONDITIONS for the animals are absolutely horrifying.

*Please don't listen to PETA. They can be nasty and irrational. If you want to be an animal activist, subscribe to HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) email newsletter. :-)

  14. This section is about diet..not animal rights.  Although many of us are very sympathetic towards our animal friends, this section is not a place to assume that we all support PETA and everything they say.  There are animals that compliment humans and we live in harmony together..I know I would not be happy without saving the lives of all my rescued animals...that's my thing but this is not the place to ask this question...it's under FOOD AND DRINK.

  15. PETA is a very unreliable source of information. As they themselves admit, their purpose is to achieve their ends by any means necessary (and they condone, though they vigorously deny participation in, violence.) So it's a fair guess that anything they say is at best a gross exaggeration or distortion.

Why would farmers, whose living depends on the health and well-being of their livestock, mistreat them? It would be economic stupidity quite aside from any moral considerations.

And consider also that if farm animals didn't live on farms, they wouldn't live at all. There is no such thing as a wild Hereford cow or a wild Rhode Island Red chicken, or a wild Poland China pig.

Even if you compare the life of farm animals with that of wild animals, you find that the farm animals always get enough to eat, are protected from predators, and get veterinary treatment if they are ill.

  16. Please don't call PETA "a vegan thing." Not all Vegans support PETA. Captivity is a word used to describe human bondage. PETA likes to use words like this to get their radical agenda accrost.

  17. most animals in captivity arnt treat so well! they ignore them and barely feed them and there is no love or passion! Im not a lover of anmials  infact i hate them alot! but nothing and noone deserves to be mistreated! its wrong and ungodly!
